Lok Sabha members to use digital pens on electronic tabs to mark attendance

Lok Sabha members attending the Winter Session of Parliament beginning Monday will have the option of marking their attendance using a digital pen on an electronic tab.

Electronic tabs will be kept at four counters in the lobby of the Lok Sabha chamber as part of Speaker Om Birla’s initiative to make Parliament paperless.

“Physical attendance registers will continue to be kept at the counters. However, members are advised to use the tab as a preferred choice and help make Parliament paperless,” the Lok Sabha Secretariat said.

Officials said the members would have to first select their names from the drop down menu on the tab, affix their signatures with the help of the digital pen, and press the ‘submit’ button to register their attendance.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs raised various issues, mainly on the implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 (APRA), linking of Godavari and Penna rivers and the multipurpose Polavaram project, in the all-party meeting held at New Delhi on the eve of commencement of the winter session of the Parliament.

Opposition demands debate on Manipur, Adani

Pointing at a frosty winter session of Parliament, the Opposition at the all-party meeting held on Sunday (November 23, 2024) laid down its demands for a detailed debate on Manipur conflict and its spillover impact on other neighbouring States in the northeast and a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into industrialist Gautam Adani’s business interest in the wake of recent indictment by a U.S. court

While the Opposition is preparing to attack the government, there are indications of cracks within its ranks. Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has invited the floor leaders of INDIA parties for a meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday to take a call on whether the group should attend the November 26 joint parliamentary session to commemorate the 75th anniversary of adoption of Constitution.
